An American painter in the Netherlands.
I am an American living and working for many years in the silvery light and rich artistic heritage of the Netherlands. I was honored by the Dutch government who extended me permanent residency status on the basis of my cultural importance to the country.
Following four years of study at the National Academy and the Art Students League of NY on scholarship an accidental meeting with a Dutchman in New York in 1980, led to a triple portrait commission in the Netherlands the following year. In 1984 I began showing with the Borzo Gallery in Amsterdam. The Dillon Gallery in New York has represented me from 1998 to 2015.
Often I am asked why I left New York to establish myself in Amsterdam. The answer is simple: Amsterdam is a beautiful, unique city that provides me with an environment to find and develop my artistic voice without the pressures and seduction of the marketplace. I have been extremely fortunate to have a loyal and supportive relationship with Paul van Rosmalen, director of Borzo Modern and Contemporary Art since 1984.
