“This one exploded onto the panel out of the blue yesterday afternoon. I can’t quite reconstruct the sequence of associations but somehow I arrived at the point that I was looking at a black & white photo I made two years ago of a school girl in Sri Lanka. I loved her at first sight and her image remained burned in my retina. I found the faded photo with this text written below it: “She’s a little Morandi vase”. I had to paint her, now.”
